Zepbound for Sleep Apnea and Obesity: W8MD Evaluation

Zepbound is FDA approved to treat moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity, giving W8MD a way to connect weight management with formal sleep evaluation and follow-up.

Why obesity and sleep apnea overlap

Excess tissue around the upper airway can worsen collapsibility during sleep. OSA may cause loud snoring, witnessed pauses, choking, morning headaches, daytime sleepiness, resistant hypertension and impaired concentration. Poor sleep may also worsen hunger, fatigue and ability to be active.

What the Zepbound indication means

Zepbound may improve OSA severity in eligible adults with obesity, but it does not mean every patient with snoring should receive medication. Moderate-to-severe OSA requires an appropriate diagnostic study and clinical assessment. Weight treatment does not automatically replace CPAP, APAP, BiPAP, oral appliances or other prescribed care.
